Perfect take-off from Caye Caulker by Maya Island Air. Although you can take a water taxi from Belize city, the air route is much quicker and direct.
Belize Diving Services took us in their smaller boat “Sea Drops” on a trip to do 2 dives near Ambergis Caye.
With our friends at Belize Diving Services (www.belizedivingservices.com) we ventured on from Caye Caulker to Turneffe Atoll and were exposed to some of the best dives sites in the area. Fantastic corals, abundant sea life and amazing guides. Not to mention jerk chicken and ting for lunch and our surface interval. Our only links to civilization was the satellite phone and an arrangement with the local helicopter tour company in the event of an emergency. A must do dive site. We are looking forward to going back in 2015 to explore more remote areas of Turneffe Atoll, Lighthouse Atoll and Glover’s Reef.
The BEST way to see anywhere. Both the southern tip and the northern island are fairly remote. It was about $5US per hour to rent the bicycles or I think $20US daily rate.
The trip from Phillipe Gordon International Airport in Belize City was a quick and comfortable 15 minute trip in a Cessna Caravan, equipped with a storage compartment in the belly. It was to drop us off at Caye Caulker en route to Ambergis Caye and was a full load. Although I tried to sit in the co-pilot seat, we were told to sit in the back as to make a quick exit (and avoid engine shutdown) on Caye Caulker.
